Tony sighed, once again mentally cursing for offering to do the paperwork for the case they’d just wrapped. He stretched, wincing slightly as the elevator dinged. He looked up to see Ziva walking in with Kelly at her side.
“Daddy!” She squealed and ran ahead of her mother to jump into her father’s lap. “Guess what I did today?” She asked, her eyes bright.
Paperwork forgotten, he gave her his full attention. “What did you do?”
She grinned. “I colored a picture. Mama said I had to wait until you were done with work to show it to you.”
Ziva reached them then, leaning down to kiss Tony’s cheek before reaching down to pick Kelly up.
“Let daddy finish his paperwork, sweetheart. Come on. I have a coloring book and crayons at my desk.”
The young girl agreed and Ziva walked to her desk, sitting down and letting Kelly sit in her lap to color.
Tony put his pen down, bringing his hand up to support his chin as he watched his wife and daughter color. Smiles lit up both of their faces, and he smiled, too, wondering how a fool like him had winded up being so lucky.
Ziva must have felt the force of his gaze because she looked up, her eyes curious. He shrugged in response, but knew that his eyes spoke for him because her smile softened.
“You done, DiNozzo?” Gibbs said as he entered, smiling as he spotted Kelly.
“Hey Gibbs!” She greeted him, and he smiled, walking over to pluck the little girl from her mother’s arms.
“Hey, Kelly.” A familiar look graced his face. “Have I ever told you you have a beautiful name?”
Kelly, oblivious to the meaning that lied under Gibbs words, smiled. “Yes. Can I sit at your desk?”
He nodded, and put her down in his chair, a small smile on his face. He turned to smile at her parents. “I swear she gets more beautiful every day. Must get it from her mom.’
Ziva smiled at Tony, who looked offended. “Gee thanks, boss.” And at Ziva’s raised eyebrow, he backtracked. “I mean, of course she did, boss.”
Gibbs grinned. “Good answer, DiNozzo. Now finish that paperwork so you can take your family home.”
